Muffuletta Sandwich
 A Specialty of New Orleans, this sandwich originated in 1906 at the Central Grocery on Decatur Street.
New Orleans dos not have a “Little Italy” section of town that you see in many other cities, but they do have a large Italian community. The passion for eating and good food that immigrants from Italy brought to this country meshed well with the Creole tradition in New Orleans.

The Muffuletta consists of round Crusty bread, split and filled with layers of Provolone Cheese, Volpi Salami, Cappicola Ham, topped with Olive Salad made with Olives, pimentos, celery, onions, garlic, oregano, parsley, olive oil, red wine vinegar, & pepper.
