Chris &
Kathy Helfer were married in 1976. In 1977, newlyweds Chris and Kathy ventured out to use their training and experience in the bakery business. They purchased a small bakery in Arnold, MO. After getting their "feet wet" in operating a bakery, they bought a 2nd location in Ballwin, MO.

They decided that they wanted to "get back to their roots" in Florissant, MO. So in 1980, they opened an outlet on St. Ferdinand Street as a stepping stone to their ambition and dream of having one full-service 'quality' bakery in their hometown.

That "dream" came to reality in August of 1992. The other locations were closed and the new home of HELFER'S PASTRIES at 380 St. Ferdinand Street was opened.

Over the years, trends in the retail bakery have changed. The Helfers have withstood the temptations to use convenience products "to save labor" and imitation ingredients "to cut cost". They have
stood their ground in using high quality ingredients and making their products the "good old fashioned way". They know that customers are the most important people in their business!
